Public benches

Why is it that I have to photograph benches? I can't say that I'm very fond of sitting on them, nor that I am attracted to their beauty. In fact, most of the time they give me the feeling of being awkwardly placed objects, giving dog owners a place for a little chat while the dogs are digging holes underneath. Dutch summers are mostly wet and the moments you really could enjoy them are therefore limited. But they are almost everywhere; even in the farthest corners of national parks you come across benches, or at least their remains. Like brave solders, keeping their position, they try to resist all weather conditions and slouching youngsters carving names in their wood. Or is it that they are like lonely elderly people, being glad to receive a bit of attention?
